Boston's first official day of winter set a new record for the highest temperature on that date.
Friday's high of 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius) broke the previous record of 62 degrees (17 degrees Celsius), set in 1957.
It came amid rain and heavy winds that the National Weather Service says were caused by a strong low-pressure system passing west of the area.
Some parts of Massachusetts saw more than 3 inches of rain, while sustained winds reached nearly 50 miles per hour in some areas.
The National Weather Service reports the storm took down trees and power lines in some places, but no injuries were reported.
The service forecast cooler conditions for Saturday, with the temperature dropping to 41 degrees (5 degrees Celsius) by late afternoon.
