The weather may be frightful, but football fans across Massachusetts were fired up as they watched some of the coldest Thanksgiving day games on record.

The Braintree versus Milton game almost did not happen on the holiday due to the frigid temperatures. A decision to move it up a day was overturned after a petition and public outcry.

"I did sign the petition," Cara Milliken of Milton said. "Because it means a lot to them. They want to play and they’re jumping around out there. They’re ready."

Thursday morning’s tickets came with hand warmers and fans came prepared. Many of them bundled up in blankets and wore several layers. Industrial sized heaters were on the sidelines and first responders were on standby. Fortunately, their services were not needed.

In the end, the Braintree Wamps pulled out a win over the Milton Wildcats. The final score was 35-21. Braintree senior Billy Silvia accounted for 29 points, breaking a school record.

Despite wind chills in the negatives, both teams said they are positive they made the right call to play on Thanksgiving day.

"It was perfect," Silvia said. "It wouldn’t have been the same on Wednesday night. This is just the best feeling I’ve ever had in my entire life."
