Police: Man Beaten With Bat, Suspect Arrested Outside Brockton Store

The incident took place in the same parking lot where two people were shot over the weekend

A man pleaded not guilty to allegations that he beat another man with a bat in Brockton, Massachusetts, late Tuesday night.

Twenty-eight-year-old Brockton resident Jean Brazile was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and mayhem, according to Brockton police.

Officers responded to the parking lot of the Brockton Mini Mart on Pleasant Street at about 10 p.m., where the victim had been beaten with a bat.

The man, who has not been identified, was taken to Brockton Hospital with serious injuries. His current condition is unclear.

The parking lot is where two men were shot as they sat in their car on Saturday night. One of those men was killed.

Brazile faced a judge Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Editor's note: Police initially said a metal pipe was used in the attack; however, they said was determined later that the weapon was a bat.
