Buddy Cianci, the former mayor of Providence, Rhode Island, was hospitalized Wednesday, necn affiliate WJAR reports.
Authorities said Cianci was taken to Miriam Hospital with "severe abdominal pains" around 7:45 p.m.
Cianci served as mayor from 1975 to 1984 and again from 1991 to 2002. Both stints notably ended with convictions - first for assault and then for racketeering conspiracy.
