Bullets Strike Apartment While Mother and Child Slept

Police in Burlington, Vermont are looking for the shooter who targeted an apartment with a mother and child at home.

Investigators were called to an apartment house on Riverside Avenue, between North Winooski and Intervale avenues, around 3:30 Thursday morning.

They discovered several bullets had struck the side of the building at 700 Riverside, as well as the glass door of one of the units. Markers tallying at least five different bullet holes were visible to news cameras.

Some of the bullets even came to rest inside the apartment, a resident told necn affiliate NBC 5 News.

Burlington police said in a news release that no one was hurt by the gunfire, but the particular unit that was struck was occupied at the time by a mother and her daughter, were who asleep inside.

"I’m on an air mattress in the living room," resident Mary Wright told NBC 5 News. "If one of those [bullets] came through into the living room—like this one that hit the wall—it probably would’ve hit me or my daughter."

Burlington Police said they are following several potential leads, but still would like to hear from anyone with information.

Anyone with info was asked to call (802) 540-2271.

A cash reward is available for tips that lead to an arrest, the department said.
