Camp Counselor Facing Charges for Assaulting Child

A summer camp counselor at a YMCA in Gloucester is being held without bail following his arrest on Friday for three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

Christopher Brayton-Tedesco, 28, was arrested early Friday at his home. He had worked as a counselor at Camp Spindrift, run by the Cape Ann's YMCA.

Brayton-Tedesco is being held without bail until a Sept. 7 dangerousness hearing.

Christopher Lovasco, CEO of YMCA of the North Shore, told the Gloucester Times via email that the investigation into Brayton-Tedesco dates to early August. Another counselor at the camp reported an incident involving Brayton-Tedesco, though it is unclear if the alleged assault took place at the camp or elsewhere.

"Words cannot describe how upset and disturbed we are today by the arrest of a former camp counselor following a police investigation that was triggered when a colleague reported an incident that occurred during an overnight camp event earlier this month that made him uncomfortable and suspicious," Lovasco said in a statement.
