Fire officials say a 22-year-old Cape Cod man has been transported to a Boston hospital with third-degree burns after throwing gasoline onto a backyard fire.
Mashpee Fire Lt. Richard Thayer says the victim suffered burns to his face, head, chest and arms just after 11 p.m. Sunday. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The details of what exactly caused the man to pour gasoline on the fire were unclear.
Thayer says it is not recommended to throw gasoline on an active fire, saying "obviously, it didn't react well."
The man was at first supposed to be flown to Boston but was driven in an ambulance when the medical flight was delayed.
No name was released.
