Car Crashed into Roof of North Providence House

Police in Rhode Island say a serious crash resulted in a car striking two houses in North Providence.

The North Providence Police Department says officers were dispatched to the scene just after midnight Sunday. WJAR-TV reports the car went over a front lawn, and then crashed into the roof of a house before the vehicle itself rolled onto its roof.

Police say two houses sustained significant property damage. The driver of the car, who has not been publicly identified, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Police say speed was "certainly a factor," but the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
