A car allegedly rolled over on Route 38 ejecting the driver into the infield of a rotary in Woburn, Massachusetts early Monday morning.

According to Burlington Police, they had a pursuit on I-95 northbound Monday morning after the driver refused to pull over during a traffic stop.

At 2:05 a.m. a Burlington police officer observed a Nissan sport utility vehicle being erratically operated on Middlesex Turnpike with multiple taillights out. The driver was driving at a slow speed and suddenly speeding up and swerving, police said. The officer suspected that the driver may be intoxicated.

The driver got on the I-95 northbound ramp and proceeded to the highway. According to police, the officer tried to make a traffic stop but the driver refused and drove away.

The driver then exited at Exit 34/Winn Street and made a sudden U-turn and drove back up the road the wrong way, almost hitting the officer's cruiser, police said.

The driver continued the wrong way up the ramp and drove the wrong way on I-95 before the car jumped an on-ramp median and proceeded back north on I-95 northbound, police said.

According to police, the driver tried to exit the highway at Exit 35/Route 38 but lost control and rolled over, crashing at the bottom of the highway ramp.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle, police said. He was taken to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police identified the suspect as a 24-year-old man from Uganda, but they have not released his name because multiple forms of conflicting identification were found at the scene.

According to police, several miniature bottles of alcohol were found at the scene. Alcohol is believed to have been a significant factor in the incident, police said.

This incident is still under investigation.
