Driver Dies After Car Goes Into East Longmeadow Pond: State Police

Massachusetts State Police said a driver who was in a car that landed into a pond in East Longmeadow overnight Tuesday has died.

State police said local police and firefighters responded around 3 a.m. to a vehicle submerged in about eight feet of water in a Heritage Park pond. A preliminary investigation suggested at least one person was in the car, according to officials.

The person was taken to Baystate Medical Center by local paramedics and was declared deceased, according to state police.

State police divers assisted in rigging the car for removal from the pond. It is unclear what led to the car being submerged into the pond.

Springfield police assisted in the initial response and crime scene services section also responded to the scene, state police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
