Steven Davis says James "Whitey" Bulger's longtime companion is getting off easy.

"She's a sick woman," said Davis. "Very sick."

Davis received a letter this week informing him that Catherine Greig is moving from prison to a much less restrictive halfway house on Cape Cod, where she'll finish the rest of her sentence.

"That's a slap in the face to every one of us as victim families," said Davis, who believes her sentence was too short and, at the very least, should be completed in prison.

Davis' sister, Debra, was killed back in 1981. Although Bulger was charged with her murder, he was never convicted of the crime.

Greig and Bulger had been in hiding for 16 years until they were caught in 2011.

Greig was sent to prison. She was convicted of harboring a fugitive and identity fraud.

"How could there be any good in a human to protect someone like that?" asked Davis.

Davis says Greig should have turned Bulger in.

He believes Bulger and Greig may have stashed millions of dollars around the world, and for Greig, the 8-year-sentence plus another 21 months for refusing to testify before a grand jury may have been worth it.

"She has a pretty good pay day, and good luck to her in spending it," said Davis.

According to the letter the Davis family received, Greig will be transferred to a halfway house in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, on June 19, and she'll finish her sentence in September of 2020.

She then plans to live in Quincy.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons would not comment.

A call to Greig's attorney has not been returned.
