Cement Truck Flips on Interstate 95 On-Ramp in Providence

There were no injuries

An on-ramp to Interstate 95 in Providence was shut down for approximately 10 hours after an 18-wheel cement truck tipped over on the roadway.

Officials say the tractor-trailer was carrying concrete powder when it flipped onto its side around 9:30 a.m. Monday on the bridge over Allens Avenue.

State police Sgt. Simon Liu says corrosion caused the 76,000-pound truck's frame to snap as it rounded the curve of the bridge.

Liu says the driver of the truck escaped without injuries, but it took almost the entire day to unload the concrete powder onto another vehicle. The ramp was reopened around 7:30 p.m.

State police's commercial enforcement unit was on-scene investigating the accident and will determine if any citations are issued.
