Century-Old Skull Found at Construction Site

Police say construction crews in western Massachusetts have unearthed a human skull that dates back more than 100 years.

Great Barrington police said Wednesday they were called to a home construction site on Jan. 28 after workers reported what they found.

Forensic anthropologist James Pokines was sent to the site. Police say Pokines believes the skull belonged to an adult woman of African descent.

Pokines unearthed an entire skeleton which he determined belonged to a male teenager. The State Archaeologist Office returned to the site Tuesday and found additional remains that they determined belonged to an adult woman.

Pokines estimated that the remains dated from the late 1800s to the early 1900s.

All of the remains have been taken to the medical examiner's office in Boston for further examination.
