A Massachusetts police officer charged with raping a woman during National Guard training over the weekend has been released on $5,000 bail.

Chicopee Police Officer Corey Fournier, 27, was arrested Monday night by state police detectives from the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.

Fournier, a patrol officer with the department, is charged with rape, kidnapping and assault and battery. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Tuesday.

Chicopee Police Chief William Jebb said Fournier voluntarily went to the police station to meet with detectives after he was informed he was under investigation for the incident.

Prosecutors said Fournier and the alleged victim were training with the National Guard at Fort Devens in Harvard on Saturday.

Fournier has been placed on administrative leave without pay, and his weapon, badge, and personal firearms were confiscated pending the outcome of the investigation.

His attorney says his client denies the charges. Fournier is a married father of two who served with the National Guard in Afghanistan.

The Massachusetts National Guard released a statement calling the allegations against Specialist Fournier “very disturbing” and “inconsistent” with their values. A spokesperson said the National Guard “remains fully committed to eradicating sexual assault and sexual harassment from its ranks.”

Fournier is due back in court March 30.
