Child Hospitalized After Being Struck by Car in Brockton, Massachusetts

The extent of the child's injuries are unclear

A 2-year-old child was hospitalized Tuesday night after being struck by a car in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Fire officials said the boy was struck at about 7 p.m. in front of a home on Market Street.

Neighbors say the boy was playing outside with his siblings when he was hit by the car.

The boy, identified by police as Neyden Tavares, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. The extent of his injuries are unclear.

Neighbors added that there are often accidents in the area and say the road is dark and treated 'like a highway.'

Police said the driver, a 27-year-old man from East Bridgewater, stayed on the scene. The driver's cell phone was taken by police as part of the investigation; however, the driver has not been charged at this point.

The crash is still under investigation.
