The three-day snowstorm that hit Northern New England this week is finally releasing its grip. This week, 5-to-10 inches of snow will be at lower elevations and some of the ski areas will have close to 2 feet.

At the same time in southern New England, just a few snow flurries made an appearance on Thursday.

The jackpot for snowfall so far this season is Caribou, Maine where the 76th inch of snow for the season fell Thursday.

The last of the snow showers are just ending in Vermont Friday morning. Otherwise, we have a much brighter day Friday, with partly to mostly sunny skies high temperature near 20 degrees north and close to 30 degrees south.

Wind from the northwest gusting 25 to 30 mph is adding a little extra chill.

High pressure moves right over us Saturday and Sunday. That means decreasing wind and plenty of sunshine. But that also means we'll get some of the coldest air since Thanksgiving. High temperatures will be in the teens north and 20s south. Night time low temperatures will be below zero north, in the single numbers to teens south.

The moon gets bigger and brighter each night, so where there is snow on the ground it will look like a winter wonderland at night, too.

There is a snowstorm on the map, tracking from Missouri to Virginia, with 5-to-10 inches of snow to our south over the weekend.

Our Sunday features mostly sunny skies with a high temperature in the 20s for the Patriots and Chargers game

High pressure gets to our east on Monday with a slight warming trend, remaining mostly sunny with a high temperature getting back above freezing Monday through Wednesday.

It looks like an even colder front is possible on Wednesday with a few snow showers, and then another batch of freezing weather from Canada coming in for the second half of the week. We’re going to start the watch now on a possible storm for next weekend. But until then, mostly cold and dry for New England.
