Cleaning Up in Worcester After Massive Storm

After a powerful nor'easter pounded Worcester, people are digging out and getting a look at the damage.

Dramatic video from a home security system in Worcester shows a branch crashing down under the weight of the snow, as a man shoveling under it narrowly escapes injury.

Overnight, some yanked down wires with them, leaving traffic lights here on Route 20 in the dark and some residents without power, heat or water.

Dereck Carrier of Worcester said, “Been out of power since 12:30 last night, still no power, it’s getting pretty cold,” said Dereck Carrier of Worcester.

Kelly Moran helped his 95-year-old mother-in-law Rose get out of her house after she lost power at around 10 p.m. last night.

"We’re going to take her to a hotel, get her some heat inside of her bones, she’s cold," she said.

The clean-up made for a long day for many Worcester residents trying to get their cars out or clear their sidewalks.

Keri Shea of Worcester said, "It’s horrible, it’s heavy, wet, nasty disgusting, my back’s hurting."

It’s the kind of snow that challenged snow blowers until some just gave up and quit working.

"You can’t do nothing, Mother Nature is going to do what it’s going to do, you can’t stop the snow," said Oscar Santiago of Worcester.

Worcester says it plans to have school tomorrow and asks residents to shovel sidewalks.
