Collision Kills 1, Driver Charged With DWI

Police say it appears that alcohol or drugs were a factor

New Hampshire State Police say it appears that alcohol or drugs were a factor in a collision on Route 119 in Rindge that killed a driver.

Police said the accident happened at about 6:40 p.m. Thursday when a westbound car driven by 40-year-old David Hoffman of Ashburnham, Massachusetts, crossed over the center line and struck an eastbound car. The driver of that vehicle, 25-year-old Joseph Hautanen of Jaffrey, died at the scene. A passenger, 25-year-old Alyssa Collins of Jaffrey, was treated for minor injuries.

Police took Hoffman to the hospital, where he was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated.

They are still investigating the crash.
