Conn. Man Arrested in Rhode Island for Drunken Driving With 4-Year-Old Child in Car

A Pomfret, Connecticut man was arrested Sunday in Rhode Island for allegedly driving under the influence with a 4-year-old child in the vehicle.

At 8:20 p.m., Rhode Island State Police stopped 35-year-old Matthew Chouinard for driving erratically on I-95 in Richmond, officials said.

It was determined that the suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol. Chouinard was also driving without headlights or taillights on, according to state police. 

Chouinard was charged with DUI with a child under the age of 13, refusal to submit a chemical test and presence of alcoholic beverage while driving a car. He was processed and released from the Hope Valley Barracks. A future date for his arraignment has yet to be announced. It's unclear if he has an attorney.

The 4-year-old child was released to relatives at the time of the arrest. No injuries were reported.
