The work-week ends on a cooler and quiet note, with more tranquil weather ahead for the weekend.

After a few flurries or snow showers this afternoon, especially over the mountains, clouds will melt away after sunset tonight.

Temperatures will drop from the 30s to near 40 during the day, down into the single digits and teens overnight for most spots.

Saturday will be the cooler of the two weekend days, with highs in the 20s and 30s. We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds around New England.

Clouds will be more numerous on Sunday as a weak disturbance approaches from the west. That may spark a rain or snow shower, but the activity should be fairly limited. Winds will also turn out of the south, boosting highs into the 30s and 40s for most.

Temperatures drop a bit on Monday behind a cold front, only to then warm up a bit more Tuesday.

That next push of warmth will come in with a more organized storm. Initially, it will likely be cold enough for some snow, but as temperatures climb Southern New England will likely see at least a mix of rain or snow, if not all rain showers, for a time.

The best chance of meaningful accumulation will be in Northern New England.

After that system, a blast of Arctic cold will pivot south. We likely see at least a piece of it, meaning early February would start on a very chilly note.
