Cops: Man Who Stole Dead Woman's Phone in Custody

A man who was accused of stealing a woman's phone after she was fatally struck by a train has turned himself in at MBTA police headquarters.

A man who is accused of stealing a woman's phone after she was fatally struck by a train in Boston has turned himself in at MBTA police headquarters.

On Nov. 6, a 26-year-old woman was struck and killed by an oncoming red line train at the busy Downtown Crossing station. Police say that moments later, the man who witnessed the accident retrieved the woman's phone from the tracks and left the scene.

According to police, the 26-year-old male suspect, later identifed as Josue Gonzalez from Brockton, turned himself in around 9:30 p.m. Friday night. The cell phone was also returned to police.

The unidentified suspect is expected to answer to a larceny charge in Boston Municipal Court on Monday.
