Couple Accused of Actively Making Crack Cocaine in Van With Their 3-Year-Old Child Inside

The couple's 3-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time of the arrest

A couple believed to be processing crack cocaine in their vehicle with their 3-year-old child inside was arrested Tuesday in Sutton, Massachusetts.

At 6:08 p.m., a sergeant from the Sutton Police Department halted a 1994 Ford Econovan on the 200 block of Putnam Hill Road for violating several traffic laws. Officials reported smelling a strong odor of gas in the car and found a propane bottle connected to a portable burner.

Investigators believe the couple was actively making powder cocaine into crack cocaine at the time of their traffic stop. The suspects were identified as 41-year-old Jamie Coal and 42-year-old Christopher Coal.

The suspects’ 3-year-old child was found in the vehicle and turned over to the Department of Children and Families.

Both suspects were held at the Sutton Police Department overnight. Together they face a total of 13 charges that include manufacturing cocaine, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and driving with an unregistered motor vehicle.

It's unclear when they'll be arraigned or if they have attorneys.
