Police: 40 Pounds of Marijuana, 50 Plants Found at Home

Police raided the home of David Maglio, 35, and Erika Zerkel, 38, Thursday

Police in Hull, Massachusetts, have arrested a couple accused of running a "sophisticated" marijuana growing operation in their home.

Investigators raided the home of David Maglio, 35, and Erika Zerkel, 38, Thursday. Inside, they found 40 pounds of processed marijuana, nearly 50 plants, several firearms and ammunition.

Neighbors say it was chaotic when the SWAT team showed up on their street.

"You just never know who lives next door to you," said neighbor Laura Taranto.

Investigators posed as utility workers so as not to tip off the couple when they raided the home. The SWAT team was brought in because Maglio was considered aremed and dangerous.

"They were a little different," said neighbor Laurie McDowell. "But not in any way I could really put my finger on."

Neighbors say the couple moved in within the last year, purchasing the home from the T-shirt mogul behind Johnny Cupcakes.

Police say Maglio has several prior drug convictions and faces several subsequent offender charges.

Both are facing charges of cultivating marijuana and reckless endangerment of a fetus, as Zerkel is pregnant.

Maglio faces additional firearm charges.

He was held on $80,000 cash bail and Zerkel was released on personal recognizance bail.
Both are set to be arraigned on a future date. It was not immediately known if they have attorneys.
