Water Restored in Newton Following Overnight Response to Water Main Break

Water has been restored in Newton, Massachusetts after a water main break off a busy street in the town inconvenienced several businesses and residents.

The water main break happened sometime after 1 p.m. Wednesday on Needham Street, according to the Newton Department of Public Works. As a result, the road was closed from Winchester to Oaks Street while crews worked to fix the issue.

Crews encountered difficulty in trying to fix the break; they were unable to immediately shut the water off since a gate valve broke. Not only that, but the pipe that needed to be fixed was encased in concrete and passing thunderstorms posed a threat.
