Crews Respond to Gas Odor at Lawrence Elementary School

Crews are responding to reports of a gas odor Tuesday at Parthum Elementary School in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Students cleared the building while officials investigated the odor and turned off the gas, according to Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera. While gas remains off, two firefighters will stay onsite and students are expected to return.

Rivera said the odor is not related to the Sept. 13 disaster that displaced thousands of Lawrence, Andover and North Andover residents.

The school was evacuated last week after a similar report, and the city of Lawrence is still recovering after gas explosions in the Merrimack Valley devastated the community nearly a month ago.
