Search Called Off for Person Stuck Under Ice in Kennebec River

Crews have called off a search for a person who is stuck under the ice of Maine's Kennebec River Saturday afternoon, necn affilliate WCSH reports.

The victim, a woman in her 50s, fell under the ice around 1:20 p.m.

Augusta Police, Augusta Fire responded to the incident. The Maine Warden Service brought in an airboat because the conditions are too dangerous for divers, but officials later determined the river was too dangerous for the airboat, as well.

A resident of the nearby Kennebec Plaza apartments tells WCSH that she saw a person walk onto the ice and then fall in.
