Cross Country Skier Rescued After Falling Through Ice of Sudbury Pond

Officials were able to bring the skier to safety and take him to Emerson Hospital for evaluation

A cross country skier was rescued after he fell through the ice of a Sudbury, Massachusetts pond on Tuesday.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., officials received a call from a man who had fallen through the ice on Willis Pond, authorities said. The incident happened when the man was cross country skiing on the pond and was unable to hold onto bushes to keep himself above ground.

Fire and personnel responded to the scene, where three firefighters put on ice rescue suits and went to the aid of the man. First responders were able to rescue the skier and bring him to safety.

The man was taken to Emerson Hospital for evaluation.

No other injuries occurred.
