DA: Malden Fire Captain Charged With Rape

The Middlesex County District Attorney's office says a Malden, Massachusetts, fire captain was arraigned Thursday on charges of rape and assault.

Wakefield resident Steven Edwards, 36, is facing charges of rape, assault and battery and violating a restraining order in connection with an alleged assault of a woman known to him.

Edwards was indicted by a grand jury on April 25.

Edwards allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim on July 14, 2015. He then allegedly sexually assaulted her against her will.

The victim then obtained a restraining order against him. On August 31, 2016, Edwards allegedly violated the restraining order when he contacted her over the phone, became abrasive, and told her the order would not be permanent.

The next day, Edwards allegedly violated the order again after he told a car dealership to not return a vehicle the victim had dropped off for service.

It’s not clear if Edwards has an attorney.
