Michael Mori is being held without bail

A Massachusetts police officer is being held without bail on charges he allegedly assaulted his pregnant wife, according to the Essex County District Attorney's Office.

Authorities said Officer Michael Mori was arraigned Tuesday in Newburyport District Court and charged with assault and battery on a family member, assault on a pregnant person and strangulation/suffocation.

Mori was taken into custody on Monday morning after his wife called police to report the alleged argument and assault that she said took place on Sunday.

The Everett Police Department said Mori has been with the department for three years. He is currently on paid administrative leave.

It is unclear when his next court date is.
