Distracted by Dogs, Woman Crashes Car, Knocking Out Power

Electricity had to be temporarily shut down so the woman and her two dogs could be safely removed from the vehicle

Varney Street in Manchester, New Hampshire, is expected to be closed for the rest of the day after a woman who was distracted by her dogs crashed her car into two telephone poles on Tuesday morning.

Manchester Police said the accident occurred at 10:12 a.m. Holly Jubrey, 60, was driving west on Varney Street when she said she became distracted by her two dogs. She hit and knocked down two utility poles. Public Service of New Hampshire was forced to temporarily disconnect power so Jubrey and her dogs could be safely removed from the vehicle.

Jubrey was taken to a local hospital and treated for neck pain, but her injuries do not appear serious. Her dogs are also expected to be fine.

Initial reports do not indicate that speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. Police said it is too early to say if Jubrey will be cited for any motor vehicle infraction or violation.

The two telephone poles still need to be replaced, and power reconnected, so the road is expected to remain closed for the remainder of the day.
