Documents: Officials Knew About Sex Assault Probe of Chief

Court documents show that town of Canterbury, New Hampshire, officials knew about a sexual assault investigation of the town's police chief last fall and didn't place him on leave.

The Concord Monitor reports 44-year-old John LaRoche is accused of pressuring an underage teen to perform a sex act on him more than 10 years ago while he was a police officer in Boscawen.

He was charged Aug. 4 with aggravated felonious sexual assault.

A search warrant filed by the Attorney General's Office says the board learned in November 2014 that there was an investigation under way.

In an email to the Monitor, Selectboard Chairman Bob Steenson says the board knew of the investigation but "did not have details" of its scope, timing or progress. The board placed LaRoche on leave after his arrest.
