Police say a dog that attacked two teenage girls and their mother in Rumford, Maine, has been euthanized.

The dog got loose Wednesday and attacked the 17-year-old and 18-year-old sisters. Their mother was bitten when she tried to intervene.

A neighbor tackled the pit bull and police subdued it with a Taser.

Police say the dog belonging to 44-year-old Eric Burns, of Rumford, was not licensed and there were no records of it having been vaccinated.

Police say Burns, who has previous citations for letting his dog run loose, consented to allowing his pet to be euthanized the day of the attack.

Burns is due in court later this month. The Associated Press could not find a phone number for Burns, and it was unclear if he had an attorney.
