Dorchester Holds 63rd Memorial Day Parade

People gathered in Dorchester Monday for the 63rd Memorial Day Parade.

The Sweeney family had the honor of raising the flag this year for their late father and husband, a World War II veteran.

“Every year they dedicate it to a different fallen member. This year it was our father who died last November," said Matt Sweeney. "He was a lifetime member down here at the McKeon Post."

Young and old alike took time out of their holiday weekend to acknowledge the sacrifice of veterans and service members.

Liam Denver, whose father served in the Army in Iraq, said he thought it was important "to remember all of the veterans that died and honor them.”

As always, the parade ended at Cedar Grove Cemetery, with remarks from the local and state officials.

“On this Memorial Day and every Memorial Day, please keep families in your thoughts and prayers," said Governor Charlie Baker.
