Dorchester Historical Society Apologizes for Controversial Holiday Card Image

A Massachusetts historical society is apologizing after coming under fire for the slogan that it picked to advertise an upcoming holiday-themed open house.

"We're dreaming of a white Dorchester," the Dorchester Historical Society said on the image, which The Boston Globe reports was used for a postcard in addition to being posted on social media.

The image, which showed the historical society’s building inside a snow globe, has since been taken off of the historical society's website and a public apology was issued.

"This was an unfortunate oversight on our part and the event photograph has been removed from our social media," the Dorchester Historical Society said in a tweet. "We were simply changing the words to the classic Christmas carol and did not think it through properly."

Some Twitter users responded to the apology by defending the historical society.

Since the apology, the historical society has replaced the image’s slogan with "May your Dorchester days be merry and bright."

Dorchester is one of Boston's most diverse neighborhoods.
