Dorchester Man Charged With Manslaughter Following Fistfight

Grand Jury investigation yields indictments following death of Brian Hingston

The Suffolk County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Bryan McElhinney, age 23 from Dorchester, with manslaughter and aggravated assault and battery following the April 17 fight that claimed the life of Brian Hingston, age 44 of Quincy.

The investigation revealed that Hingston, McElhinney, and others were celebrating a friend's birthday on the night of April 16 into the morning of April 17. Two members of the group became involved in a fistfight in the Greenhill Bakery parking lot. McElhinney joined the fight and when Hingston attempted to intervene, McElhinney struck him once in the face. Hingston fell and hit his head on the ground and was unconscious. He was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center.

McElhinney will be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on July 8.
