Dorchester Teen Found Sleeping With Gun in Playground

Boston police officers arrested a male teen who was found allegedly sleeping in a Dorchester playground, with a gun near him, early morning Wednesday, August 17.

According to police, the suspect was found unconscious with the gun resting under his arm around 5:56 a.m, at the Oliver Wendell Holmes Schoolyard.

The officers woke him up and the suspect allegedly woke up startled and struggled with the officers. Police officers were able to gain control of the suspect and handcuff him.

Police also were able obtain two digital scales and a black ski-mask from the suspect. The gun was loaded with several rounds of ammunition.

Suspect Rodney Cooper, 18, of Dorchester, did not produce a license to carry and was arrested under the following charges: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public, Trespassing, and Firearm on School Property.

The arraignment will be at Dorchester Court.

Boston police said their officers have removed 462 guns from the streets.
