Double-Fatal Motorcycle Crash in O'Neill Tunnel Under Investigation

Massachusetts State Police are investigating a double-fatal motorcycle crash that occurred in the Thomas P. O'Neill Tunnel early Saturday.

According to police, several motorcyclists were riding on Route 93 northbound when two of the operators lost control at Exit 23 and crashed just after 2 a.m. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation determined the fatal victims were Jerry Alphonse, 28, of Everett and Aralt Cesaire, 26, of Medford. Alphonse was operating a 2006 Honda CBR600 and Cesaire was operating a 2004 Suzuki GSX-R600, according to state police.

State police said the victims lost control of their vehicles and struck a wall on the left side on the tunnel.

At least two other motorcyclists remained on scene.

Two lanes of traffic were closed during the investigation, but they have since reopened. There is, however, significant traffic backup as a result of the earlier closures, police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
