A powerful low-pressure center tracks north of New England today, putting us on the warmer side of the system.
In northern Maine, the cold air holds tight with 5-10 inches of snow in Aroostook County.
Elsewhere, a warm front moves to the north allowing temperatures to jump into the 60s as strong wind from the south gusts past 35 mph.
There may be some spotty wind damage, otherwise the day features a mix of sun and clouds and high temperature in the 50s and 60s.
Early fog gives way to a few sunny breaks before a line of showers, and a possible thunderstorm, forms in western New England by lunchtime, racing east to the Maine and Massachusetts coast between 5 and 7 p.m. Thunderstorm wind may gust past 55 mph.
Much colder and drier air races in tonight, with wind from the northwest gusting past 35 mph, sending the temperature down to the 10s and 20s north, 20s and 30s south.

The Home Opener at Fenway Park looks sunny with very cold wind, high temperatures in the lower 40s, wind from the west gusting 25-35 mph.
Wind lets up a little bit tomorrow night, but the next system races in with a mix of rain and snow Friday.
The rain/snow line is close to Boston, the mountains of New England may get 5 to 10 inches of snow Friday and Friday night.
Further south, along the coast, mostly rain is expected. Another batch of cold air comes in Friday night, coastal rain may change to snow before ending.

However there are some questions as to whether the snow will totally shut down. A new low pressure system will develop on the front south of New England with another storm system off to our south Saturday and Saturday night.
The current thinking is that the track should be far enough offshore to allow us a bright and cold weekend.
Either way, another batch of wintry mix is likely to arrive early next week.
