Authorities have released the name of the tractor-trailer driver who was killed Monday following a single-vehicle crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Sterling Hullett, 49, of Fort Worth, Texas was killed in the crash, according to state police.

The incident happened sometime around 1:30 p.m. near Boston's Brighton neighborhood when the semi-truck Hullett was driving somehow crashed into a median while traveling eastbound, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined the tractor-trailer began to sway for a reason still under investigation and caused the vehicle to move from the middle lane to the left. The truck then rolled over into the median and continued to travel for a "significant" distance, according to authorities.

The semi-truck came to a rest with the cab on the eastbound side of the Mass. Pike and the trailer on the westbound lanes, near Exit 20. The container the vehicle was carrying was dislodged in the crash and came to a rest across several westbound lanes.

Hullett, an employee of R & D Transportation, died at the scene.

An R & D Transportation representative told NBC10 Boston that Hullett was heading to Pittsfield from Boston. The truck was registered in Texas and the trailer from Maine.

"He was a really good guy, we don't know what to say," said the representative.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash but for hours, only the right travel lanes on both the eastbound and westbound sides of the highway at exit 20 were getting by. The scene was cleared just before 7 p.m.

    The investigation is ongoing.
