Extra security is being taken at a Massachusetts school on Friday after someone made an anonymous threat online referencing a Florida-style attack.
WJAR-TV reports Fall River parents received a robocall from Durfee High School Principal Matt Desmarais Thursday night, alerting them to the situation.
"We are aware of a recent anonymous post on social media, making threats to our school tomorrow," Desmarais said in the call. "We received this information from several students who chose to do the right thing by reporting it to us. Working in collaboration with the Fall River Police Department, we have no evidence to support this as a credible threat."
Desmarais said out of "an abundance of caution" the school would have an additional police presence on Friday and would be doing random security checks, including bag checks, throughout the day to ensure the safety of students and staff members.
"Safety and security is our primary mission each and every day," Desmarais said in the call. "It takes the efforts of our entire community to achieve this ideal. I want to enforce the statement, 'See something, say something.' This cannot be stressed enough. I am appreciative of those who brought this to our attention today. It is the students who choose to do the right thing each and every day who truly represent the real Durfee High School."
The alleged threat came one day after a 19-year-old man allegedly opened fire at a high school in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people.
