A racist video apparently made by students in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, was posted to Snapchat and has been making the rounds on social media.
“It was disgusting,” said Jocelyn Williams, a junior. “It is really bad, originally I thought the kids in the video don’t go to our school but then someone told me they actually do go to our school, and I was like, well this is even worse.”
The students in the video use the N-word and at least one student appeared to be in black face.
“Heartless,” said Kristen Hennessey, who has five biracial children. “I felt it was very racial, and I think that it was completely wrong. It’s gotten to the point that my two boys that are currently at the high school they no longer want to be at the high school anymore, they don’t feel comfortable, they don’t feel safe at all.”
East Bridgewater Superintendent Elizabeth Legault, said in part, .”...the District does not condone the statements or actions of the individuals portrayed in that video. Such statements and actions are against the core values of our District and our community.”
School officials met with students Monday to discuss the situation, but some students say that conversation did not go far enough.
“They talked about how we need to spread kindness instead of actually saying the word ‘racism’,” said Sandra DaRosa, a senior.
