Shuttle buses had to replace service between a few MBTA Blue Line stations as firefighters investigated a report of a blaze Wednesday morning.
The Boston Fire Department said crews received a call at about 9 a.m. for a fire at the Aquarium station. Arcing cables were seen next to the third rail at the station, officials said.
Firefighters shut down the power and were able to extinguish the cables. As a result of the response, shuttle buses had to be deployed to substitute service between Government Center and Airport. As a result, commuters experienced some delays.
"Totally inconvenient," said MBTA rider Loulou Healey. "Had I known, I would have not walked this way. I would have gone the other way or seeked alternative transportation."
"It's fine because I only have a 5 minute walk, not too bad for me," said MBTA rider Yan Lng. "But for other people to go the airport, maybe that's bad."
There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Service resumed a couple of hours later.
