Elizabeth Warren Holds Town Hall at UNH, Fields Questions on Medicare For All

Elizabeth Warren says she will be releasing her plan for how to pay for Medicare For All soon

The latest poll from the University of New Hampshire has the two New England senators leading the pack of Democratic presidential candidates. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are holding the top two spots, with former vice president Joe Biden falling from the strong lead he held in July.

Senator Warren was at UNH Wednesday where she held a town hall, answering questions from voters like retired teacher Marie Beaulieu.

Beaulieu, whose question is not a rare one, said, “I have a lot of friends and neighbors and colleagues who have tremendous respect and support for you, but the question that comes up over and over and over again, is the specificity of healthcare reform.”

Warren is all in on Medicare For All, but Democrats who are happy with their current health insurance want to know how she is going to pay for it.

Beaulieu said, “We came up here looking for more specifics.”

Warren’s answer is vague.

“It’s something that I’ve been working on for a while now," she said. "And I’m going to put out a plan on it.”

It’s the answer Warren has given ever since Pete Buttigieg confronted her in the last debate saying, “It’s your signature, Senator, you have a plan for everything except this.”

Now many are wondering, what’s taking so long?

Warren‘s response: ”I continue to work on parts of it that need more information, for me, one of them is about talking about what the cost is.”

Bernie Sanders, who wrote the Medicare For All bill, says taxes will go up on the middle class. Warren insists overall costs will go down.

Linda Sica from Rye says she is confident Warren will figure it out, adding, “It doesn’t make me nervous at all. Because I believe that Elizabeth is tenacious.”

Many feel, if Warren becomes the nominee, she will moderate her position on Medicare For All. But Warren gave no indication of that, saying, “Look, I have been an original cosponsor of Medicare For All. I believe that Medicare For All is the best possible way to make sure everyone gets healthcare coverage and nobody has to go bankrupt... I think it is absolutely crucial that we use Medicare For All as a way to make sure that we get everyone covered.“

Warren says she will be releasing her plan for how to pay for Medicare For All soon.
