Enfield High School Student Fatally Stabbed, Police Investigate

Police said they are looking for a person of interest in connection with the incident.

Police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old Enfield High School student who was stabbed several times early Monday morning, according to police.

Police said they were called to the area of 15 Hoover Lane just after midnight to investigate a report of an assault and found 16-year-old Justin Brady. The stabbing happened on the street, according to police and officers said Brady did not live at the address.

Enfield Superintendent Christopher Drezek said in a statement released on Twitter that police have provided assurance that the staff and students are not in any danger, but they have asked for an increased police presence at the high school as a precaution.

Police are investigating the death of a 16-year-old Enfield High School student who was stabbed several times early Monday morning, according to police.

Emergency crews that responded to Hoover Lane Monday morning used CPR and a defibrillator on Brady at the scene. He was alive while he was being transported to Baystate Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:33 a.m.

A neighbor who said he witnessed the attack described a horrifying scene.

"He bled to death in front of me and I just can't believe it that nobody did anything except me for calling 911," the witness said.

The witness said he heard yelling and saw some shoving before Brady fell to the ground.

"I wanted to do something myself but I couldn't I feared for my own life," he said.

Enfield police said the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit is assisting with the investigation.

Enfield High School also posted about the incident on Twitter, saying, "We are very sad to learn that an EHS student passed away over the weekend. Any students who need support should report to the career center or cafeteria where we will have additional counseling staff available for all students and staff."

Drezek said school officials were notified overnight and they immediately gathered their crisis team, which was waiting for students as they arrived on Monday morning and began notifying them of their classmate's passing. Announcements were made offering support services and grief counseling at the school. He said those services will be ongoing.

Police said Monday that they were looking for a person of interest in connection with the incident. On Tuesday morning, police said they have arrested 18-year-old Shyheim Adams, of Enfield. He has been charged with manslaughter in the first degree.

Authorities previously said the "parties were acquainted" and it was not a familial or intimate relationship.
