As people in North and South Carolina evacuate, many passengers arriving into Boston's Logan Airport Wednesday evening were grateful to be out of the storm zone.

"I'm relieved to be back in Boston, but I'm concerned about my relatives in eastern North Carolina," said Nancy Phippins of Tewsksbury, Massachusetts.

She was in North Carolina's Outer Banks on vacation visiting family. She was supposed to return home this weekend, but she got an earlier flight out of Raleigh.

"I bumped it up a few days. Otherwise, I don't know when I would get back," said Phippins. "It would have been a nightmare."

On a flight out of Charlotte, Pamela Robb says she rebooked to make sure she got to a weekend wedding in Brockton.

"After I found out the hurricane was going to be so bad, I need to leave earlier, or I'd miss the wedding," said Robb. "So that's why I left early."

College student Michael Scipione says his campus at Coastal Carolina University is shut down, so he's coming home to southern New Hampshire.

Students at his school near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, were told that campus is closed at least for the rest of the week.

"They just evacuated everybody, so we decided last minute this morning to get on a flight and get out of harm's way," said Scipione.

Friend and fellow student James Coen jumped on a flight out of Charlotte, as well, heading home to Atkinson, New Hampshire.
