The former bookkeeper at a Boston-based labor union has been sentenced to a year in jail for stealing more than $150,000 from the organization.
The Suffolk district attorney says Marie Esther Lafontant was also ordered by a judge Tuesday to pay full restitution to the United Association of Journeyman Plumbers and Gasfitters Local 12.
The 40-year-old Lafontant pleaded guilty last month to larceny over $250 and making false entry on corporate books.
Prosecutors say from 2011 until 2013 she printed checks drawn on the union's bank accounts, intercepted union checks to third parties and deposited them into personal accounts, and made unauthorized purchases with the union's credit card.
Her scheme was discovered when union accountants discovered a payment to a business for which Lafontant was listed as the president.
