A former Rhode Island police officer has pleaded guilty to sending sexually explicit pictures and videos of himself to a 15-year-old girl.
Federal prosecutors say 51-year-old Matthew Riley pleaded guilty Thursday to transfer of obscene material to a minor.
The former Narragansett officer faces up to 10 years in prison at sentencing scheduled for Feb. 1.
Prosecutors say Riley started communicating with the girl in late 2015 or early 2016 through text messaging technology. They say the girl made her age clear.
During his communications with the girl, Riley identified himself as Chris M. and told her he was 29 years old, lived in Boston, was in the Navy, and worked as a physical therapist.
Authorities say over the course of several months, Riley sent the sexually explicit communications.
