Excitement Building at Olympian’s Home Mountain in Vermont

Excitement is building in the Mount Snow region for Olympians, including Devin Logan.

Just days before the start of the Winter Olympics, excitement is building in the southern Vermont hometown of a standout Olympic athlete.

“Devin will be competing on her birthday,” said West Dover Vermont’s Nancy Logan, speaking about her daughter, Devin, who turns 25 during the Winter Games.

Devin Logan is a freeskier competing in South Korea in both halfpipe and slopestyle, which sees athletes conquering obstacles while performing tricks.

“It’s not traditional, that’s why it’s super fun,” Logan said of slopestyle in an interview with NBC prior to departing for Pyeongchang. “You can be creative, be yourself, make your runs different from everyone else to stand out—kind of put your personality on the snow and let the judges see that.”

In late 2016, Logan traveled home from her Utah training center to Mount Snow, the southern Vermont resort where she really developed her love for skiing, and where her mother works at the training center.

During that trip, Logan signed autographs, taught a women’s ski clinic, and showed fans the silver medal she won at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.

“I’m just expecting everyone to push it farther than they ever have,” friend Jillian Atwood said of Logan and other slopestyle competitors at the Olympics.

Atwood competed alongside Logan on a youth team, and they’re still friends.

“I’m not putting any pressure on her, but I think it’s going to be awesome to see her on the podium again,” Atwood said of Logan. “I think she’s worked hard enough and it’s definitely a possibility.”

“It’d obviously be great to see her on a podium,” Nancy Logan said. “But as long as she puts down the runs she wants, and is happy, and they’re all safe in the end; basically, that’s all you can ask for, because they’ve done what they’ve set out to do.”

[NATL] Judge Blocks Trump's Migrant Non-Port of Entry Asylum Ban

An order from a federal judge overnight barred the Trump administration from blocking asylum requests from migrants who cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally. This happens as a caravan criticized by President Donald Trump arrived in Tijuana, Mexico, across the border from San Diego.

Along with Devin Logan, the Mount Snow Valley is also cheering on Winter Olympians Kelly Clark, Emerson Smith, and Caroline Claire. The halfpipe snowboarder, moguls skier, and slopestyle skier all have close ties to the Mount Snow region.
