Officials: Student Arrested After Snapping Photo of BB Gun at School

The Snapchat photo showed a hand holding what was later determined to be a BB gun at a Fall River high school

A Massachusetts high school student was arrested Monday after allegedly bringing a BB gun onto school property and posting a photo of it on Snapchat.

Officials with Fall River Public Schools say several Durfee High School students alerted administrators to a Snapchat screenshot of a firearm with a caption "Life at Durfee."

Fall River police were alerted, and after locking down the school, officers and administrators started searching the building for the firearm.

Investigators found out the student suspected of having a firearm had already left the school before the school was locked down, and Fall River school officials say police arrested him at his home and found the BB gun that they determined was the firearm depicted in the Snapchat photo.

The student, identified only as a 15-year-old boy, was charged with carrying and possessing a dangerous weapon on school grounds, minor in possession of a BB gun, disturbing the peace while armed and disturbing a school assembly.

School officials say there will be reinforced security measures in place for students starting Tuesday morning.
