Just weeks ahead of a recall election amid federal fraud charges, an embattled Massachusetts mayor is looking to repay the lenders he is accused of defrauding.

According to court documents filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court, the attorney for Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia has asked the judge to allow him to repay $306,000 to the lenders who invested in Correira's SnowOwl app. In exchange, the lenders would agree not to file lawsuits against Correia.

The mayor was arrested in October on federal fraud charges. He is accused of collecting $306,000 from eight investors to develop the SnowOwl app but spending more than $230,000 of the funds to pay for a lavish lifestyle and advance his political career.

The Fall River City Council voted unanimously in December in favor of a recall election if Correia did not resign. He refused to do so.

The recall election is scheduled for March 12.
